Review: Urban Egg – A Daytime Eatery

Alright friends – if you are a regular listener to the Experience Pros radio show, you KNOW how much I love food. But let’s get right down to it… all food is NOT created equal – and if I had to choose my favorite meal of the day – it would be BREAKFAST! I don’t just LIKE breakfast… I absolutely LOVE everything about breakfast!! I’d probably marry breakfast – if that were an option. *sigh*

There’s a new breakfast joint in town – and yes… I am IN LOVE! No… seriously. I just had breakfast over at the Urban Egg in Highlands Ranch, and OMG – You need to know about this restaurant! It truly represents a MAJOR… repeat – MAJOR step up in the breakfast offerings that can be found – not only in the ranch – but ANYWHERE in Denver. Mark my words!

  

My morning started off with a fresh cup of Urban Egg House Estate Blend Coffee.

You know I’m a coffee ninja – and this fair trade blend rose to the occasion of a great cup of Joe. It paired nicely with the bowl of organic breakfast quinoa – yes, I said quinoa, cooked with coconut milk and cinnamon, topped with fresh strawberries, blueberries and walnuts – all drizzled with lip-smackin’ Colorado honey! I don’t usually go for whole grains… but I will definitely be going back for this hearty alternative to oatmeal!

Bring on the benedicts.

Okay – I admit it. I am a benedict snob. I believe that all breakfast restaurants should be judged by their benedicts… and the Urban Egg did not disappoint. Managing Partner Scott Morrissey warned me that the Tuscan Benedict would rock my world. He failed to mention that it would change my life… forever! There’s a new King of the breakfast world in town – and it’s the Tuscan Benny! Hashtag Double O.M.G! Resting lightly on top of a bed of English muffin, you will find tomato, prosciutto, fresh basil and a perfectly poached egg – all drizzled with tangy hollandaise sauce – and the peice de resistance: balsamic vinegar to complete the savory onslaught! RUN – do not walk to the Urban Egg and order the Tuscan Benedict. It’s one holiday gift you’ll want to open every single day! Truly the best eggs benedict I have ever had in my entire life! A fresh cut fruit bowl rounded out the plate perfectly.

From savory to sweet – if you love your pancakes (and who doesn’t?) you’re going to love the Peace, Love and Pancakes flight they brought to me next!

This is a threesome that won’t get you into trouble… but might get your heart racing just the same! From left to right, this flight features Fred’s Hawaiian super-sweet pineapple syrup with toasted coconut and house-made vanilla cream anglaise cinnamon butter. (Say that three times fast!) – right next t it was the Colorado Blueberry Streusel pancake made with fresh berries, toasted streusel and topped with lemon honey butter and blueberry infused maple syrup. Oh – and let’s not forget the Bananas Foster pancakes! House combusted foster sauce is what makes these cakes sing! Topped with layers of bananas and a dollop of whipped cream. Yummy! I paired this delectable delight with a classic mimosa – and it was simply perfect!

Finally, I had to go in for the Huevos Rancheros.

If you live in Colorado, you must be a fan of one our local traditional meals – and yet.. like everything else, The Urban Egg takes this classic to an all new level. Corn tortillas, black beans, eggs any way you like them and sweet cojita cheese – all topped with sliced avocados and the chile sauce of your choice make this one of my favorites. The hash browns made a perfect compliment – and they were cooked just as I love them: crispy!

Now let’s talk drinks… No meal is complete without them. From the fresh and sassy Cucumber Invigorator, (which has cucumber and honey lemonade) to the drink known far and wide as “The Cure”, whose ingredients include Pineapple, vanilla, orange juice and coconut water…. You cannot make a mistake with just about any drink on the menu. All of them, of course, may be infused with the alcohol of your choice – or are just as tasty without the adult kick.

And finally – if you love a bloody mary – I’ll put the house Mary at the Urban Egg up against ANY bloody mary I’ve ever had! It’s fully loaded – and you can be too! Onions, pickles, limes, tomato juice and lots of pepper – all build up to the coup de gras: a super crispy bacon slice hangin’ out at the top. Shoot me know, this dawg’s gone to mixed drink heaven – and I wanna go back again and again.

Hey, I’ve got an idea – why don’t you meet me there for breakfast tomorrow? It’s the Urban Egg – 52 W. Springer Drive in Highlands Ranch, just south of the AMC Theaters, and right next to our members, Festive Cup Coffee, Printing Done Quickly and Beso Tapas and Wine Bar.

BONUS FEATURE: Talk about rockin’ the customer experience… I got a behind-the-scenes tour of the Women’s Restroom!  Yep!!!  The “powder room”… the “Loo”… the “This is where flocks of women go when they want to bond or talk about their men” – room.  And just look at what I found: The folks at Urban Egg love their lady patrons so much – they gave them a place to express themselves in a way that only women can (and I truly LOVE that about them!!) – It’s the Wishing Wall!!  Let me just say this: if the food doesn’t get you – THIS WILL!

Come to the Urban Egg!   Bring your spouse or significant other!!  Eat… Express Yourself… LOVE the attention to detail.  I certainly did!
